ZUSCHREIBUNG – this book is now the second monograph on the composer Peter Ruzicka. The first – NACHZEICHNUNG – was published twelve years ago. Much has changed since then – politically, socially, culturally, but also in the personal life of an artist like Peter Ruzicka, who never thought, acted or wrote within narrow horizons. Between 2013 and 2022, in an enormous creative surge, he produced a body of compositions that make up a good fifth of Ruzicka's entire oeuvre, centred on BENJAMIN, his third opera. The contours of a late work are emerging; looking back on his own work and on history, the composer has developed a new expressiveness. More can be said about his musical language and the contexts of its development than was possible twelve years ago. Thus, the first version of the monograph not only had to be significantly expanded, but also reweighted and reevaluated from a different perspective. The new title reflects this.
